Kansas City - Alumni Event

Day # 00
Submitted by: Marjorie Ellison
Alumni, faculty, staff and current students joined C-SC President Dr. William Fox in Kansas City on Thursday, March 13. Stacy Raith `83 hosted the event at the Embassy Suites.

Current C-SC students participated in a corporate experience on Wednesday-Friday hosted by H.B. Turner `79, trustee of Culver-Stockton. Businesses toured included Heatron, Inc.; Cerner, Inc.; and Vistage Group, hosted by Zouire Marketing Group. The group also toured the Liberty Memorial, the only World War I museum in the United States. Read their blogs below.

The students attended the alumni gathering to share their experiences from recent events. It was a great time for networking, reminiscing, and fellowship among the Culver-Stockton family.

The group also recognized and honored Sarah Maloney, one of the 2008 Pillars for Excellence Scholarship winners. Sarah, who will graduate from Park Hill R-V Senior High School this spring, is the daughter of Jeff and Nancy Maloney of Kansas City, Mo. She plans to be an arts management/theatre major when she starts as a C-SC freshman next fall.

Day # 01-03

The trip to Kansas City was very interesting, and I enjoyed everything that we did. The first place that we visited as a group was Cerner Corporation. Cerner is a leader in the field of medical technology. The employees of this company take all the current systems of hospitals and medical offices and streamline them through technology to make the new systems more efficient, faster, and easier to use. This technology was explained to us during a walk-through demonstration of an individual feeling chest pain and needing surgery. They showed us the steps in which this individual would schedule an appointment, receive diagnosis, schedule further visits to specialists and all the way to the processes in surgery. There were technologies for all needs of the medical field, and they were very fascinating.

I was given the opportunity to travel to Kansas City for the Spring Corporate Experience trip. I really enjoyed going to Cerner and learning about health care technology and also really enjoyed meeting with the Chief Executive Officers at Vistage. The reception Thursday night with faculty and alumni was a great networking experience as well. Our alum, H.B. Turner, sponsored the trip to Kansas City, and we were also given the opportunity to go to Heatron, which is the business he owns, and learn more about it. Again, I would like to thank H.B. Turner for the trip. It was a great learning experience.

The entire trip to Kansas City was a great experience. It's always nice to get into a business and apply what we have studied in the classroom. Our last day was at Heatron where we actually got to see a manufacturing floor along with the many parts that are produced in Leavenworth. We learned about all parts of the company and the exciting new avenues that Heatron is pursuing - the LED lights were really interesting to see. Mr. Turner was a great host all three days, arranging for a memorable trip to the other side of the state. Thanks to all the people who helped to make this happen for us!
