Holmer Claims HAAC High Jump Title
Saturday, May 05, 2012

Culver-Stockton College freshman Logan Holmer completed his inaugural collegiate season by winning the high jump championship at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships which were held at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, on May 4-5.

In the team competition, the Wildcat men finished seventh with 29 points while the women placed seventh with 13 points. Baker University captured both the men and women’s team titles.

Holmer and Baker University jumper Travis Miller each cleared six feet, 5 inches. In what amounted to a jump-off, the bar was put at 2.01 meters and dropped down until only one performer cleared that height. Holmer finally cleared the height at 1.97 meters to win the event and earn all-conference honors.

In other action, sophomores Jacob Moffitt and John McBride also earned all-conference honors for the Wildcats in their respective events.

Moffitt earned his honor by finishing third in the shot put with a school-record throw of 45 feet, 2.50 inches. That mark topped the previous school record of 44 feet, 9 inches by Anthony Jahr at the 2008 HAAC Championships.

McBride continued his fine season in the discus by placing third overall to claim all-HAAC accolades. McBride posted a mark of 145 feet, 4.50 inches.

McBride and Moffitt also earned points for the men's team in other events. McBride placed eighth in the hammer throw with a toss of 129 feet, and Moffitt finished eighth in the discus with a throw of 124 feet, 11.75 inches.

Reed Lunsford also scored for the Wildcats, placing fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.71 seconds. It was Lunsford first race of the outdoor season.

In women's action, senior Julisa Watt earned points for the women's team in two events, placing fifth in the 100-meter dash and seventh in the 200-meter dash. Watt ran the 100 meters in 13.14 seconds, while finishing the 200 meter distance in 27.02 seconds.

Watt, along with Nickie McIntosh, Shelby Roberts and Phylica Grayson, set a personal best in the 4x100 meter relay, placing fifth overall with a time of 50.98 seconds.

Grayson also earned a point for the Wildcat women by placing eighth in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:03.40. That time was a personal best for Grayson.

Finally, Ruthie Wheelock earned points for the Wildcats in the shot put and the discus. Wheelock finished eighth in both events, throwing the shot 32 feet, 10.50 inches, and tossing the discus 102 feet, 10.75 inches.
