C-SC hosts Articulation Conference

Monday, October 14, 2013

Several area community colleges attended an articulation conference at Culver-Stockton College, Friday, Oct. 11. The conference addressed ways to make the transfer process easier in switching from community college to a four year school like Culver-Stockton. Colleges in attendance include John Wood Community College, Southeastern Community College, Moberly Area Community College, Carl Sandburg College, St. Charles Community College and Lincolnland Community College.

“This articulation conference provided a great opportunity for a discussion between local community colleges and Culver-Stockton on how we can continue to improve the transfer process and make it as seamless as possible for students,” said Billy Schaffer, assistant director of admission and transfer coordinator at Culver-Stockton. “This is a topic that should continually be addressed to assure we are keeping up with the needs of our students.”

Culver-Stockton has taken several steps to ensure students transferring from community college have an easy transfer process, including signing articulation agreements with several schools. Articulation agreements ensure students know exactly what credits to take to earn their degree in four years, beginning at community college and transferring to Culver-Stockton. Culver-Stockton has articulation agreements with John Wood Community College, Southeastern, and Moberly Area. Culver-Stockton also offers “2+2” Agreements in business and education with JWCC. C-SC is also working toward another “2+2” in athletic training with multiple area community colleges. A “2+2” in athletic training would be especially beneficial because transfer students often have to spend five years working toward a degree in that field.
