Music Education

Develop the skills to teach music, both vocal and instrumental.

Fast Facts:

- Students pursuing a Bachelor of Music Education must complete 60 hours of coursework in the music department, including music history, music literature, music theory and aural skills.
- Students also must pass a piano proficiency exam and satisfy requirements for a teaching degree by the education division.
- Field experiences and education methods courses are offered during the 3-week terms in the spring of the sophomore and junior years.
- Private lessons and ensemble work are required.
- BME majors must complete repertoire and performance requirements for six semesters and prepare and perform a senior recital.
- There is no freshman freeze. Students are able to participate in vocal and instrumental ensembles their first semester.
- Fine Arts facilities include, Alexander Campbell Auditorium, Mabee Little Theatre, Merillat Recital Hall, Music Library/Composition Lab and Multi-Media Recording Studio.
