Persistence and Student Success (P.A.S.S.)

Mission
The mission of the P.A.S.S. Committee is to act as an early intervention "safety net" mechanism through which efforts are made to identify students who are "in trouble" or otherwise "at risk" of not succeeding at Culver-Stockton College academically, socially, or personally. After identifying such students, the P.A.S.S. Committee evaluates each student's situation and determines appropriate means of intervening to help the student succeed.

Committee Members:

• Director of Retention Programs (Chair)
• Registrar
• Director of Counseling & Wellness Services
• Director of Career and Academic Support Services
• Dean of Student Life
• Chaplain
• Dean of Academic Affairs

Working Assumptions:

• Students who are missing classes, performing poorly, or behaving unusually need careful monitoring and, in many cases, our intervention.
• Our goal should always be to identify student problems early, before those problems become unmanageable.
• Student problems are best addressed by those closest to the students in day-to-day interactions. In other words, instructors, advisors, and others who know students best can, in most cases, be the people who intervene and attempt to help those students solve their particular problems.
• When such efforts are determined to fall short, the P.A.S.S. Committee serves as a back-up resource for intervention. Faculty and staff are encouraged to submit student names and any helpful information to the committee in those cases.
