Faculty Biographies

Faculty teaching in the MBA Program are experienced in online instruction and 100% of C-SC faculty have received online training. All faculty members have earned either a Master’s degree or Doctorate in their chosen field and most have years of practical experience in their field as well.

James CosgroveDr. James M. Cosgrove, J.D.

Dr. Jim Cosgrove has taught in the Business Division at C-SC since 1981. Cosgrove earned his bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from the University of Notre Dame, his bachelor of arts degree in religion and philosophy from Culver-Stockton College, and his law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law.  He has practiced law for 10 years prior to joining the faculty at C-SC. In addition to teaching in the inaugural offering of the FYE program, he teaches legal issues, human resource management, risk management, and business ethics.  Cosgrove is the academic advisor to C-SC's Connected Campus online adult education program and has served as faculty advisor to Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

Susan Deege, Ph.D., joined the C-SC Business Division in 2009. She holds a bachelor of science degree in advertising, graduating with honors from the University of Illinois. Graduate degrees include a master’s in advertising/marketing from Northwestern University, a master’s in management from National-Louis University, and a doctorate in workforce education and development from Southern Illinois University. She held marketing and management positions with Sears Roebuck for 12 years, as well as working for firms doing marketing research. Since 1990 she has been in higher education teaching business and social sciences classes at the specialist, master, bachelor, and associate degree level. Prior to joining C-SC she served as the director for career and advising services at John Wood Community College for eight years. She is actively involved in community activities and volunteer work and, in 2009, earned a President’s Award for Community Service. She resides on a family farm in Illinois.


Kim GaitherKim Gaither, Ph.D.

Dr. Kim Gaither has taught at C-SC since 2003 and received Culver-Stockton's 2008 Helsabeck Prize for Excellence in Teaching.  She holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration and finance, graduating summa cum laude from Culver-Stockton College; a master of business administration degree from Western Illinois University; and completed her doctorate in business administration with a specialization in financial management from Northcentral University. In addition to teaching in the Connected Campus program, Gaither's primary teaching areas includes finance, financial management, investments, multi-media in business, sport finance and business strategy. Gaither serves as the faculty advisor to Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and also assists with the Institute of Management Accountants Student Chapter.  She has served as treasurer, elder, and board member of the Canton Christian Church and serves as a member of the Canton R-V School Board.

Dr. Dell Ann Janney joined the C-SC faculty in 1992 and presently serves as chair of the Business Division. Janney obtained her bachelor of science degree, summa cum laude in accounting from Culver-Stockton, a master in business administration degree from Western Illinois University, her CPA from the state of Illinois, and a doctorate in management from Webster University. Janney's primary teaching areas include intermediate accounting, principles of accounting, cost accounting and corporate experience. In addition, Janney serves as faculty advisor to the Institute of Management Accountants Student Chapter and to Chi Omega. Janney is past president of the Quincy Area Chapter of the IMA, college liaison for the IMA's Heartland Council, a member of the IMA Committee on Students, and past chair of the IMA National Student Conferences. Presently, Janney is chair of the Lewis Street Playhouse in Canton, and has previously served as treasurer of the Canton Public Library, finance chair of the Immanuel United Methodist Church, and secretary/treasurer of Sun‘n Surf Swim Club.


Robert Sadler, Ph.D.

Robert Sadler earned his bachelor’s degree in Physics from Missouri S&T in Rolla before going on to the University of Wyoming in Laramie to earn his master’s degree and doctorate, also in Physics. Before coming to Culver-Stockton in 1991, He served as a professor of Physics, Astronomy, and Computer Science at Eastern Wyoming College from 1974-1991. He also was an instructor of extension classes at the University of Wyoming. Dr. Sadler was awarded the Helsabeck Prize for Excellence in Teaching in 1998 and 2010 as well as the Walter S. Reuling Prize for Innovation in Student Learning in 2008.

Dr. Sadler’s academic interests include Climatology, Decision Science, Geographic Information Systems, and several areas of Astronomy. He is also the coordinator for activities related to the WeatherBug meteorology station on the Culver-Stockton campus. In addition, he has been employed as a Summer National Park Ranger at Ft Laramie National Historic Site and Yellowstone National Park, and maintains an active interest in the National Park system and the history of the Old West.

Julie Straus joined the CSC faculty in 2008 and previously worked for the public accounting firm Gray Hunter Stenn LLP since 1996 and was a partner with the firm since 2005. Straus obtained a Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude in Accounting from Culver-Stockton and holds her CPA license in the states of Illinois and Missouri. In addition, Straus is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Missouri Society of CPA's and the Institute of Management Accountants. She also serves as co-advisor to the Institute of Management Accountants Student Chapter.
