C-SC to showcase student art
Monday, March 29, 2010

CANTON, Mo. – Culver-Stockton College will show the artwork of C-SC students in the Student Honors Show, Thursday, April 22 through Friday, May 7, in the Mabee Art Gallery, located in the Herrick Foundation Center on the C-SC campus. An opening reception will be held Thursday, April 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. with remarks from judge, K. Nadine Mitchell, from Quincy, Ill.

Mitchell earned her bachelor’s degree in art with an emphasis in painting and drawing from Judson College, Elgin, Ill., and her master of fine arts degree from Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, Ga. She also studied at the Lacoste School of the Arts in France. Mitchell’s work has recently been featured in St. Louis, Mo., at the Art St. Louis XXV and Flax Gallery/Art Dimensions.

All Culver-Stockton students are eligible to enter their artwork to be judged for entry into the show between Tuesday, April 13 and Thursday, April 15 from 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., in the Herrick Foundation Center. There is no entry fee and no limit on pieces one can enter. The artwork must have been made between April 2009 and April 2010, either in a C-SC art class or under the instruction of a C-SC faculty member. C-SC faculty will select the pieces that will be shown into the exhibit.

Art selected for the show will be eligible to win best of show, first place, second place, third place, and honorable mention awards. The faculty will select a piece for the Faculty Award and the Kathleen J. Regier Award. The piece that receives best of show will receive a monetary award courtesy of C-SC alum, Dr. Thomas Spoerner.
