C-SC to feature printmaking exhibit as first show of the 2010-11 year

CANTON, Mo. – Culver-Stockton College will feature the work of Michael Barnes, associate professor of art at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Ill., during the first art exhibition of the 2010-11 school year in the Mabee Art Gallery located on the C-SC campus. The printmaking exhibit will be displayed in the gallery from Thursday, Aug. 26 through Friday, Sept. 24. A gallery opening and talk will be held on Aug. 26, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Barnes earned a bachelor of fine art from Alma College, Alma, Mich., in 1991. He went on to receive his master of art in 1995 and his master of fine art in 1996 from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. He has earned several awards, honors, and residencies, most recently holding a residency at Columbia College in Chicago, Ill. He has participated in solo, group, and juried exhibitions nationally and internationally.
In Barnes artist statement he says: “The overall style of my work is greatly inspired by science fiction literature and cinema, music, travel, and gardening. I enjoy drawing, making prints, and using my imagination to create stories. My art is the center of my life where all of my interests and experiences melt together.”
The exhibit is free and open to the public and will be available for viewing Thursday, Aug. 26 through Friday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
