C-SC art students make gallery debut
Wednesday, September 22, 2010

CANTON, Mo. - Culver-Stockton senior art majors will venture beyond campus borders to do their first professional gallery show at the Canton Area Arts Council Gallery during the month of October.

Each year, seniors make the transition from students to working artists as they prepare the gallery, design the show and welcome the public on their own. An opening reception will be held Friday, Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the CAAC Gallery.

The opening will feature works from Rebekah Mathiesen, senior art education major from St. Louis, Robert Schmerber, senior art major with emphasis in graphic design from Florissant, Mo., Jacqueline Kaufman, senior art major with emphasis in studio art from Quincy, Ill., and Ashley Jameson, junior art education major from Silex, Mo. Two and three-dimensional work is represented in the show highlighting the versatility and differing styles of the honored four. Faculty sponsor Robert Kennon supervised the project, but the students controlled all aspects of design and execution as they will be expected to do in their future professional lives.

"C-SC at CAAC" will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays through Oct. 23.
Canton Area Arts Council Gallery is located at 309 Lewis Street in Canton, Mo. The space is provided by and adjacent to the Canton State Bank. CAAC is associated with the Missouri Arts Council.
