Culver-Stockton to host Family Weekend, Visit Day Sept. 16-18

CANTON, Mo. – Culver-Stockton College invites parents and family members of students to go “Back to School” during the annual Family Weekend to be held on the campus of Culver-Stockton College Sept. 16-18. The college will also welcome prospective students and their families Saturday, Sept. 17 for a variety of Visit Day activities.

The fun begins Friday when family members have the chance to go back to school and live the Culver-Stockton experience. Select classes will be open for registered parents and family members to attend from 1-5 p.m., guests are also invited to get a taste of the collegiate world and enjoy dinner with their student(s) in the C-SC dining hall inside the Gladys Crown Center from 5-6:30 p.m. Following dinner, family members can learn more about unique travel study opportunities available to C-SC students during an information session to be held from 6-7:30 p.m. in Meaders Lounge, also located inside the Gladys Crown Center. Beginning at 7:30 p.m. students and their families are encouraged to attend the Faculty Chamber and Student Soloist Performance music concert in Merillat Recital Hall inside the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center. The concert will showcase the instrumental talents of a number of C-SC students and faculty members.

Family Weekend activities begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday with breakfast and continue throughout the day. Highlights of events and activities include, the State of the College Address by Culver-Stockton President Richard Valentine at 10 a.m. in Meaders Lounge; dedication of the Joseph ’59 and Charlann Schwan Discovery and Opportunity Conference Center at 11:30 a.m. in Henderson Hall; pre-game tailgate from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ellison Poulton Stadium; and the Wildcat football game against the Evangel University Crusaders beginning at 1 p.m.

Prospective students and their family members will also take part in a number of activities Saturday, Sept. 17 on the campus of Culver-Stockton College, including a campus tour, information sessions and the Wildcat football game. Current C-SC students are encouraged to invite a friend or relative to attend the visit day to get to know others, meet current C-SC students and learn the “inside scoop” on college life. For each student or relative referred to visit campus on Sept. 17, the current student’s name will be entered into a drawing to win products for a complete room makeover from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. The winner will be announced at half-time of the football game on Sept. 17.

The weekend comes to a close with several Sunday events, including the dedication of the J.C. ’37 and Betty (Powell) ’49 Constantz Garden dedication at 1 p.m. in the garden area south of the football stadium on the C-SC campus; and the premiere of the theatre department’s production of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” A matinee performance of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” will be staged at 3 p.m. in the Mabee Little Theatre inside the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center.
