Scholarship changes, additions at Culver-Stockton to benefit new students
Thursday, September 22, 2011
CANTON, Mo. – Culver-Stockton College today announced the addition of a new scholarship opportunity for first-time entering freshmen students, as well as changes to the college’s long-standing full-tuition scholarship competition, the Pillars for Excellence Scholarship.
Beginning Oct. 3, 2011, first-time entering freshmen who meet outstanding academic criteria will be invited to the Culver-Stockton campus on an individual basis to compete for a $10,000 Founders’ Scholarship. “We are extremely excited to introduce this new scholarship for Culver-Stockton students,” said Misty McBee, C-SC director of admission. “Culver-Stockton is committed to making college affordable for students, and our new Founders’ Scholarship is just one more opportunity for us to do just that,” McBee added.
Founders’ Scholarships will be granted based on grade point average, student interview with faculty and a number of other criteria. Recipients will receive a $2,500 merit award per year for up to four years provided they remain in good academic standing. The Founders’ Scholarship may be combined with other merit, performance, talent or need-based funding; however, it may not be combined with the Pillars for Excellence or Presidential Scholarship awards. Students will be invited to take part in the Founders’ Scholarship between Oct. 3, 2011 and March 1, 2012. “We are really looking forward to the inaugural Founders’ competition and fully expect to have a great response from students,” McBee added.
In addition to the new Founders’ Scholarship, C-SC officials are excited to announce changes to the bi-annual Pillars for Excellence Scholarship competition. Also beginning Oct. 3, 2011, first-time entering freshmen who meet outstanding academic criteria will be invited to campus on an individual basis between Oct. 3, 2011 and Dec. 15, 2011 to compete for a full-tuition scholarship. In previous years, two competition days were scheduled in February and groups of students were invited to take part. College officials hope the schedule change will make it easier for students to take part in the competition. “The Pillars for Excellence scholarship is about recognizing students for their hard work and achievements. By allowing students to compete on an individual basis earlier in their college search, rather than hosting one or two competition days as we have in years past, we hope to make it easier for students to come to campus and take part in this challenging, yet, truly rewarding competition,” said McBee.
Pillars for Excellence Scholarships are awarded based on qualifying academic criteria and individual competition results and may be renewed for up to four years provided the student remains in good academic standing. Awards are based on the cost of tuition at the students’ initial time of enrollment. The estimated value of the Pillars for Excellence Scholarship is $89,000 over four years. The Pillars for Excellence Scholarship may not be combined with other scholarships or merit awards.
