Wind Ensemble presents Symphony No. 1:Lord of the Rings

CANTON, Mo. -- Exploring a connection with literature, the Culver-Stockton College Wind Ensemble will present Johan de Meij’s monumental Symphony No. 1: Lord of the Rings on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 3 p.m. in the Alexander Campbell Auditorium located in the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center on the C-SC campus.
Composed between 1984-87, this award-winning, five movement symphony musically depicts Gandolf, Shadowfax, Gollum, Lothlórien, the Hobbits, along with several other vignettes from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. “Not only is this one of my favorite works for wind band, it’s one of the most moving and dramatic works in our repertoire. You don’t want to miss this concert,” reports Trent A. Hollinger, director of bands and assistant professor of music.
