Culver-Stockton observes Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday
Wednesday, January 11, 2012

CANTON, Mo. – Culver-Stockton College will host a number of events in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday Monday, Jan. 16.
Events begin at 6 p.m. in Merillat Chapel inside the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center with a presentation by singer and composer Kenyarda Scott. Scott brings a wealth of talent and expertise. Scott began singing at age 5, singing in churches, schools, and more. These experiences defined his life. Some recording and performances include Pretty Ricky, Jagged Edge, Josh Groban, and the Florida Memorial American Gospel Choir, which has toured Germany and Spain. A reception will be held following the presentation in the lobby of the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center.

At 7:30 p.m., also in Merillat Chapel, the C-SC Black Student Union and Student Life Office will host a screening of the movie “The Help.”

Kenyarda Scott’s presentation and the movie screening are offered as part of Culver-Stockton College’s Academic and Culture Events program, which is intended to broaden students’ academic pursuits, introduce current issues, serve as a forum for ethical concerns, offer cultural breadth and refinement, and stimulate new directions and perspectives for thought. These events are free and open to the public.

Culver-Stockton College classes will not be in session and administrative office will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16 also in observance of the holiday.
