C-SC awards full-tuition scholarships to eight outstanding students

CANTON, Mo. – Culver-Stockton College is proud to announce eight students have been awarded full-tuition scholarships for their outstanding academic achievements. The awards were granted based on the results of Culver-Stockton’s annual Pillars for Excellence Scholarship.

Select students are invited to compete each year for this full-tuition merit scholarship. These students, who have been admitted for the Fall semester at Culver-Stockton College, successfully met the stringent academic standards required to compete. The competition includes an essay and interview conducted by faculty, alumni or former Pillars winners. This year’s candidates averaged a 3.94 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and a 27 ACT score, and these eight Pillars Scholars have emerged as being among the best of this very impressive group of high achieving students.

The 2012 Pillars for Excellence Scholarship Competition winners include:

Jayden Bowen –Colony, Kans.
Ashley Boyte –River Grove, Ill.
Sara Douglas –Lee’s Summit, Mo.
Rachel Johnson –Barry, Ill.
Leann Mayer – Hurdland, Mo.
Brandon Pezley – Donnellson, Iowa
Miranda Raevsky – Derby, Kans.

In addition, Culver-Stockton College will welcome 2011 Pillars for Excellence Scholarship winner Spencer Waters, from Liberty, Ill., at the start of the Fall 2012 semester. Following his receipt of the Pillars for Excellence Scholarship in 2011, Waters spent a year studying abroad.

The Pillars for Excellence Scholarship Competition is held annually and is open to first-time entering freshmen who meet two of the following requirements: a grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale, a minimum ACT score of 27 or are in the top 10 percent of their graduating class. The Pillars for Excellence Scholarship is a full-tuition merit award, which may be renewed for four years. The estimated value for four years is $89,000.
