Monday, February 27, 2012

CANTON, Mo. – More than 130 area high school and junior high school students were on hand Saturday, Feb. 25 for the 54th annual Science Fair hosted by Culver-Stockton College. The students represented six regional schools in Missouri, Illinois and Iowa: Canton R-V, LaPlata R-II, Central Lee School, Keokuk School District, Danville Junior and Senior High and Southeastern Senior and Junior High School.

A total of 100 projects were on display in the Science Center on the C-SC campus. Winners were selected based on scoring by the judging panel thatincluded faculty members of Culver-Stockton College’s Division of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, as well as Culver-Stockton students. “There were many extraordinary projects at this year’s science fair, and the judges were very impressed with the students’ enthusiasm and background knowledge on their projects,” said Dr. Lauren Schellenberger, chair of the Division of Natural and Mathematical Sciences and assistant professor of biology. “Scientific inquiry is one component of experiential learning that we emphasize here at Culver-Stockton College, and we look forward to hosting the science fair each year to celebrate these students’ achievements.”
