Friday, March 09, 2012

CANTON, Mo. -- Two Culver-Stockton College students were recently recognized for their work to promote literacy.

Josh Heitman, of Keokuk, Iowa, received the Pre-Service Reading Recognition Award for his work during the summer of 2011 designing a summer reading program for the Keokuk Public Library. Heitman recently earned his teaching certification in history education from Culver-Stockton College. Jordan Smith was recognized, posthumously, for her work in preparing to teach middle school and high school reading.

The Pre-Service Reading Recognition Awards were announced during the Write to Learn Conference hosted by the Missouri Reading Council March 1-3, 2012. The award allows the Missouri Reading Council to recognize a preparatory teacher who has demonstrated significant accomplishment or innovation in preparing to promote literacy.
