There are several reasons for the spike in enrollment. C-SC’s switch to the split 12-week/3-week semester curriculum is entering its fifth year, with the graduating class of 2012 the first to spend all four years with the 12/3 curriculum. Culver-Stockton is proud to be one of only two colleges in the country to run on this style of academic calendar. The increased enrollment shows that students are responding to the opportunities the 12/3 semester provides, as well as the experiential learning that it allows. "I am extremely pleased with the increase in enrollment this year. We are happy to provide more students with the unique learning experiences they receive at Culver-Stockton College. Students are responding so well to our 12/3 calendar and the hands-on approach to learning,” says College President Richard Valentine. The 12/3 calendar also grants students the chance to take shorter study abroad courses in the 3-week term, and more than 80 percent of C-SC graduates have been involved in an extended travel course. The dramatic increase in transfer students may also be attributed to the improved relationship with area community colleges. Articulation agreements with local schools ensure a seamless transfer process for students continuing the education they started at a local community college. Another reason for the increased enrollment is the success of the capital campaign, “A Vision for Our Future.” This is the college’s first capital campaign in 21 years. The campaign went public in May with a goal of $10.4 million. To date, $8.5 million of that goal has been reached. “We have had such overwhelming support for ‘A Vision for Our Future,’ and students are excited about the improvements being made throughout the campus. We have tremendous upward momentum and I am thrilled to see what the future holds for C-SC,” says Valentine. The improvements and updates provided by “A Vision for Our Future” can be seen all over campus, including new walking paths, an education simulation center, vast improvements to the library, an on-campus coffee shop and community study area and a business technology center. The increased enrollment is only the start of things to come, according to Misty McBee, director of admission. “We know the students are truly seeing the value of our unique education here at Culver-Stockton. With our study abroad courses, our thriving internship program and our dedication to experiential learning, our students get so many exceptional opportunities,” says McBee. OTHER FEATURED ARTICLES
