CANTON, Mo.-- Culver-Stockton is pleased to announce their 29th annual Pillars for Excellence scholarship competition. Winners of the competition receive a scholarship of full-tuition for four years at Culver-Stockton, awarded annually at freshman value. The total value of the scholarship is just under $89,000.

For prospective freshmen who are interested in competing, the competition runs from Oct. 15 through Jan. 25. During that time, competitors visit Culver-Stockton’s campus for a campus tour and an interview with two esteemed members of the Culver-Stockton College faculty. Additionally, an essay will be completed prior to the conclusion of the competition.

“The scholarship has had a huge impact on my education here at Culver-Stockton. Right away, it took away the stress so many students feel about the debt they incur in college. It has also allowed me to put more focus into my actual education, instead of how I'm going to pay for it. Winning the Pillars scholarship has opened up many opportunities for class selection. I am able to take classes like Genomics Research and other advanced-level classes,” says Brandon Pezley, Pillars for Excellence winner. “Overall, I'd have to say the best effect it had on my education so far is all of the opportunities I have been given and the opportunities that will come.”

There are three general requirements for students to compete for the scholarship. Students must apply and be admitted to Culver-Stockton, have a minimum composite score of 26 on the ACT or an equivalent SAT score, and they must have a minimum 3.75 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). “The Pillars for Excellence Scholarship is an excellent opportunity for any student that would be eligible to compete. All competitors, regardless of whether they are Pillars recipients, will gain admission into our unique Honors program which is a spectacular educational opportunity,” says Misty McBee, director of admission.

Recipients of the scholarship are expected to demonstrate both the qualities of mind and the qualities of person that will allow a student to flourish in C-SC’s rigorous but community-orientated academic environment and in the challenging world beyond college
