Meet the new Chaplain, Amanda Sorenson
Wednesday, October 17, 2012

Culver-Stockton College is pleased to announce the arrival of the newly hired Chaplain, Amanda Sorenson. Sorenson started the position Oct. 1.

Sorenson is from Madisonville, Ky. She completed her undergraduate work at the University of Kentucky, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in secondary education with an emphasis on social studies. Sorenson is currently a student at Lexington Theological Seminary. When she is finished with this program, she will have earned a Master of Divinity. Sorenson is also on track for ordination with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

“I always knew that I would end up in ministry but I still tried to pursue other fields. I worked in retail and in Human Resources. For a while I thought God had the wrong number, but when I finally chose to answer the call, I knew going to seminary and pursuing a career in ministry were right for me,” says Sorenson.

Sorenson moved to Canton in October with her husband, Brent, and their dog, Tate. “I like Canton. The day we moved in, within a few minutes there were people at our door with baked goods. It is obviously a very close knit community and I feel at home already,” comments Sorenson.

The duties of the Chaplain include counseling and providing help with personal issues. Sorenson is available to help explore questions about faith and provide spiritual guidance for students. She also wants to help restore a weekly Chapel service on the Culver-Stockton campus. She also is a resource for student groups looking for community service opportunities.
Before moving to Canton, Sorenson served as the student associate minister for Twin Pines Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Lexington, Ky.
