Ziegler Hall undergoing complete renovation
Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Ziegler Hall, a student residence, is receiving a complete renovation, which when finished will offer amenities unlike any residence hall in the area. Ziegler Hall will offer up to 70 students premier “Condo-style” living, including kitchenettes in every suite, a private workout room, and a theater room. Other amenities include individualized control over heating and air conditioning, two students per one bathroom and weekly maid service.

Upgrades are also being made to the building’s safety features, outdoor spaces and technological capabilities. The residence hall will have multiple safety enhancements, including heat detectors, strobes and emergency sprinklers. Outside improvements include a newly paved parking lot right behind the building reserved for residents and updated landscaping and patio furniture. Technological updates include an upgrade of the Wi-Fi network to wireless “N” technology, which is faster than any “G” network available.

Students have had a large part in the design of the new living space. College officials gathered recommendations and requests from students and the students’ feedback has guided the renovation. Students also get to help decide on the furniture of the common rooms and the exercise equipment. Students are excited about the opportunities provided by the renovation, and space is expected to go quickly with priority of housing assignments given to upperclassmen.

The building was named after Leslie Ziegler, the president of the College from 1950-1956, and has traditionally been a men’s dorm. The renovation is expected to be completed by Aug. 1, 2013, ready for students by the 2013-14 school year.
