Events to kick off Relay for Life

Come out and support Relay for Life starting Friday, Sept. 7. Several activities are being held to kick off the event, which is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 14 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Sept. 15 in Martin Park. Pre-Relay activities include:

  • Paint the County Purple Campaign. Residents of Lewis County are encouraged to put purple ribbons on trees and put purple signs in windows.
  • Debs Steakhouse Diner will have a prime rib special on Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8. Prime rib will be $10.95 plus a $1 donation to Relay for Life. The radio station 99.5 WCOY will broadcast live from 4-6 p.m. Friday.
  • Teams will be at the First Friday Block Party on Sept. 7 selling frozen treats.
  • On Saturday, Sept. 8, the Relay for Life team will pump gas for tips at Casey's. A car wash will take place on Monday. Sept. 10 at Casey's at 3 p.m.
  • On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Relay for Life team will wait on tables at Billy Bob's beginning at 5 p.m. and at Primos on Wednesday, Sept. 12 also starting at 5 p.m.
  • A male beauty contest will be held following the Luminary Ceremony. A delegate from the C-SC teams will compete for the title "Queen of Relay."

Canton Area Arts Council is featuring Michael D. York

Canton Area Arts Council's September Gallery exhibit features the work of Iowa photographer Michael D. York in a show entitled "Rural Reminiscence," which is opening Friday, Sept. 7 with a public reception at the Gallery, 309 Lewis St. The exhibit will last through Sept. 29. The Gallery opening is part of the summer's First Friday Block Parties sponsored by Third to Fourth and Lewis Street businesses and organizations to celebrate community and vitality in the downtown district. York is a life-long resident of Washington, Iowa, working in photography since 1965. He has taught continuing education classes in digital photography in the Washington Center at Kirkwood Community College and Indian Hills Community College.

Sample Canton on Sept. 13
Sample Canton will be held Sept. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Gladys Crown Student Center lobby and Meaders Lounge. Come learn about local businesses. Find out what resources are available in the Canton area.



Cornhole Tourney
The Cornhole Tourney took place Monday, Sept. 3 at the Quad.

Author of Honky to speak at opening convocation
Dalton Conley, PhD, sociologist and author of Honky, the true story of his growing up as the only Caucasian child in one of New York City's African American/Latino ghettos, will be the speaker at Culver-Stockton on Thursday, Sept. 6, for the opening convocation to kick off the 2007-08 academic year.

Great River Bowl blood drive challenge set for Sept. 14
Culver-Stockton College will compete with Quincy University on Sept. 14 in a blood drive, vying for a community service trophy. This will be the second year for the competition. Culver-Stockton will hold its blood drive 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Gladys Crown Student Center.

 

 

Alumni to play soccer at Ayers Field

The women's alumni soccer game is Saturday, October 6 at 11 a.m., and the men's alumni soccer game is Saturday, October 6 at noon. Register by e-mailing Barb Ewart at bewart@culver.edu or call x6443.
