2009 Homecoming court crowned at Culver-Stockton
Josh Arnsman, son of Steve and Dianna Arnsman of Mendon, Ill., was crowned king. He is a physical education major who wants to teach and coach. Katie Thomas, daughter of Kevin Thomas and Chris Schmidt of Camp Point, Ill., was crowned queen. She is majoring in both mathematics and applied sports science and plans to attend graduate school and go into student affairs. Also named to the Homecoming court were: Junior Prince and Princess: Lance Smith, son of Audrey and Chuck Roberts and Terry
Smith of Memphis, Mo.; and Nicole Buck, daughter of Dave and Loretta Buck of O'Fallon, Mo. Sophomore Prince and Princess: Kyle Sebring, son of Robert and Janet Sebring of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; and Elise Obert, daughter of Darrell and Gina Obert of Quincy, Ill. Freshmen Prince and Princess: Nick Hessling, son of Brad and Helen Hessling of Dexter, Mo.; and Katie Janie, daughter of Brad Janie and Kathy Gentemann of St. Peters, Mo.
2009 Homecoming parade winners announced
Culver-Stockton has announced the winners of Saturday's (09/26) Homecoming Parade. In the Greek House category, Tau Kappa Epsilon/Sigma Sigma Sigma took first place, followed by Alpha Tau Omega/Delta Upsilon/Chi Omega, and Sigma Kappa/Lambda Chi Alpha. Theta Alpha Phi, the theatre honor society, took first place among student organization entries, followed by the Student Government Association. Among community entries, first place was won by the First Baptist Church, followed by Canton RV Day
Care, and the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Honorable mention went to Canton Future Farmers of America. Canton Junior High School took first place in the junior high band category, followed by Palmyra Middle School. In the "A" band category, first place went to Green City High School, with South Shelby High School winning second place. In the "AA" band category, Highland High School won first place, and Palmyra High School took second place.
Two students play 20 roles in C-SC's production of Greater Tuna Culver-Stockton College students Beau Becraft, junior communication major from Memphis, Mo., and Zach Martin, junior theatre major from Decatur, Ill., will star in the C-SC rendition of Greater Tuna, to be held October 8-11, in the Mabee Little Theatre on the C-SC campus. Greater Tuna
by Jaston Williams, Joes Sears, and Ed Howard is set in Tuna, Texas - "the third smallest town in the state." Becraft and Martin will play 10 characters each, including men, women, and children of all ages, as well as animals in this comedy about small town culture and behavior. C-SC Professor of Theatre, S. Kent Miller will direct the off-Broadway hit. C-SC students will also be behind the technical parts of this performance with Teri Terford, senior arts management major from Hamilton Ill.,
as assistant director and house manager; Sean Myers, senior arts management major from Hannibal, Mo., as stage manager; Brittany Hendrix, freshman arts management major from Davenport, Iowa, as assistant stage manager; Meghan Townley, freshman arts management major from Quincy, Ill., as assistant house manager; and Amanda Eisele, junior arts management major from Mexico, Mo., as box office manager. Greater Tuna
will be performed at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, October 8, through Saturday, October 10, and at 3 p.m., on Sunday, October 11. All performances will be in the Mabee Little Theatre. Quincy Symphony Orchestra season to begin Saturday, October 3; Admission free to C-SC The Quincy Symphony Orchestra (QSOA) season is set to begin its season Saturday, October 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Morrison Theatre located at Quincy Junior High School, in Quincy, Ill. Led by conductor Bruce Briney, the QSO will open the season with Lyric Romanticism
, featuring soloist Istvan Szabó on viola. The orchestra has close ties to Culver-Stockton College with both student and faculty musicians. Dr. R. Joseph Dieker, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college is the principal clarinetist of the orchestra. Dr. Thomas Polett, chair of the division of fine arts and associate professor of music serves as principal trombonist. Jane Polett, adjunct instructor of violin is the general manager of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra Association
and a violinist with the orchestra. Two C-SC students perform with the orchestra, Daniel Cox on violin and Aden Eilts on double bass. Culver-Stockton College students, faculty and staff may attend the concert free of charge with their C-SC ID card.
Psychology majors attend Washington University's Program in Occupational Therapy
Megan Alles, sophomore psychology/occupational therapy major from St. Louis, Mo., Julianna Gillam, freshman psychology/occupational therapy major from Media, Ill., and Kelsey Payne, freshman psychology/occupational therapy major from Keokuk, Iowa, accompanied by Rod Walton, associate professor of psychology, recently visited Washington University's School of Medicine, Program in Occupational Therapy. During the visit they were able to tour the Washington University Occupational Therapy
facility, Childrens Hospital rehabilitation center, Childrens Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Barnes Hospital Milligan hand trauma unit. The trip was in conjunction with the C-SC 3/2 program, that prepares students for OT careers through three years of academic program study here and two years on the Washington University campus in St. Louis.
Culver-Stockton Teachers Organization/ Wildcat Educators officers elected
The Culver-Stockton Teachers Organization/Wildcat Educators have elected officers for the 2009-10 school year. Voted into the position of president was Mary Bowman, junior early childhood education major from Maquon, Ill. Brittany Brummer, junior elementary education major from Monroe City, Mo., was elected as vice president. Elected as secretary was Leah Scott, junior elementary education major from Keokuk, Iowa, and the treasurer position went to Lance Smith, junior history education major
from Memphis, Mo. Congratulations to all of this year's officers.
Netherlands study abroad informational meeting An informational meeting about the study abroad course to the Netherlands this spring will be held on Monday, October 5, in Meaders Lounge from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. All those who are interested in going on this study abroad course are encouraged to attend. Feel free to bring your lunch to the meeting.
