Creating Transformational Educational Leaders

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) program is 100% online and designed to serve a variety of educators and potential educators!  As a teacher entering a curriculum and instruction master’s program you can expect to gain a much deeper background on content knowledge, teaching styles, the psychology behind learning, and reflective teaching practices. If you are a practicing teacher who wishes to further your knowledge of curriculum and instruction, Culver-Stockton College’s traditional Master of Education pathway will provide you the flexibility to complete your master’s degree while continuing to teach.

If you are a practicing elementary or early childhood teacher who is seeking certification as a Title I Reading Teacher, Reading Interventionist, or a Reading Instructional Coach, then our Special Reading Certification curriculum within our Master of Education program is designed to meet your goals. Missouri law requires teachers to take coursework to receive a Special Reading Certificate to be eligible for reading positions at your school. Earn the certificate and then with additional coursework you may earn our Master of Education degree.

Are you someone who initially earned your degree in another field but has now discovered a passion for teaching?  The Alternative Certification specialization pathway in our Master of Education degree is designed to provide professionals the opportunity to earn a teaching certificate to teach in Missouri or another state. Use your professional experience and expand your knowledge in education to contribute to the teaching profession. You may apply for a provisional teaching license and begin your master's degree and teach while you earn your master's degree.

Get Started on your Path to Success

Culver-Stockton College’s Master of Education program is truly flexible and meets the needs of a variety of professionals. We offer three areas of specialization: Curriculum and Instruction, Alternative Certification, and Special Reading Certification.

Master of Education – Curriculum and Instruction Specialization

The traditional Master of Education degree is focused on curriculum and instruction helping students apply principles of pedagogy, methodology, and instruction to the classroom. Courses span a mix of core courses and electives covering instructional technology, real-life instructional challenges and issues, classroom management, curriculum development and planning, educational research, and student learning assessment and evaluation. Our practice-based approach with hands-on experience includes a capstone final project aimed at addressing an educational problem or issue. Our program features three areas of specialization.

Special Reading Certification Specialization

School districts need more highly trained teachers in reading specialization. A Special Reading Certification with Culver-Stockton provides teachers with specialized training in assisting struggling readers. Earning the certificate also allows teachers to continue taking courses and earn a Master of Education degree.

Master of Education – Alternative Certification

The Alternative Certification specialization pathway in our Master of Education degree provides potential teachers who do not have an education background the opportunity to earn certification in a variety of areas. You may select an area of teacher education certification that may or may not be directly related to the focus of your undergraduate degree.
