Scholarly electronic journals are periodically published works with individual articles that are subject to strict editorial and peer or refereed review. Articles are always written by a scholar or group of scholars in the field, and their affiliations (to universities or research institutions) are often noted on the first page. Scholarly articles contain original research conducted by the author(s) and they are meant to inform an academic audience interested and invested in the discipline. Scholarly articles note the title and author on the first page, often have an abstract, and always contain citations and a lengthy bibliography.
