Dr. D’Ann Campbell, a professor of history, is the recipient of the Walter S. Reuling Faculty Prize for Innovation in Student Learning at Culver-Stockton College. She was recognized during the Honors Day Convocation held May 12.
CANTON, Mo. — Dr. D’Ann Campbell, a professor of history, is the recipient of the Walter S. Reuling Faculty Prize for Innovation in Student Learning at Culver-Stockton College. She was recognized during the Honors Day Convocation held in the Alexander Campbell Auditorium and shown live online on May 12.
Dr. Kelly M. Thompson, president of the College, said after giving Campbell the award, “When we think of innovation in student learning, the use of new technologies and experiential learning methods first come to mind, but you have focused on a different but equally important form of pedagogy that focuses on retention and student success for students who typically face the greatest barriers to success. You give tirelessly of your time and energy to let students know you care about them. Your attention to detail and a student’s individual needs is the backbone of a student’s development.”
Campbell joined Culver-Stockton in 2010. She has an extensive background in higher education, having worked in various academic and leadership positions at the United States Air Force Academy (2016-18), Montana State University-Billings (2008-10), United States Coast Guard Academy (2004-07), Chester College of New England (2001-04), New Hampshire College (1999-2001), the Sage Colleges (1997-99), Austin Peay State (1992-97) and Indiana University (1979-92).
Campbell has written two books and has had 42 research articles published in scholarship journals and books. She has been assigned to committees in national offices for nine groups, including the American Historical Association, the American Studies Association and the Organization of American Historians. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Colorado College in 1972 and her doctorate in history from the University of North Carolina in 1979.
Campbell received the president’s award for exemplary service to the college from Culver Stockton in 2015.
The award is named after Walter Reuling, who served as the dean of the College from 1980-89 and was president of the College from 1989-92.
