Senior lecturer in business earns doctor of business administration degree

CANTON, Mo. — Matthew Osborn, a senior lecturer in business, has earned a doctor of business administration degree in decision science and information management from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Fla.

Osborn’s dissertation focused on mobile technology adoption and the decision science associated with mobile grocery shopping. Statistics show that acceptance of mobile grocery shopping (and pickup delivery) has grown slowly.

The purpose of Osborn’s study was to determine if mobile trust and mobile relationship are influencing the adoption curve. Mobile trust determines whether a consumer will trust an e-commerce personal shopper at their grocer to select the same quality of products (and acceptable substitute items) as they would with in-store shopping. Mobile relationship determines if the relationship between the consumer and the e-commerce personal shopper, at time of grocery pickup, influences consumer loyalty and increases the likelihood of continued mobile shopping.  The results showed that both trust and relationship are strong and significant factors in the adoption of mobile grocery shopping adoption.

Osborn joined the Culver-Stockton College faculty in 2018. He previously was an adjunct professor of business at Jacksonville University from 2016 to 2018 and at Christian Brothers University from 2017 to 2018.

Before going into higher education, Osborn was the chief information officer for National Auto Care (2016-18), a national vice president for HUB International (2014-16), a senior vice president, vice president of operations, assistant vice president and programming manager for Allstate (1996-2014), an information systems specialist at Metro Information Services (1995-96), a manager of training for ExecuTrain (1990-95) and a minister in the non-denominational Christian Church (1984-90).

Osborn earned his bachelor’s degree in professional studies and computer information systems from Barry University in 1990, then earned his master of business administration degree from Jacksonville University in May 2007.
