A minor is a great opportunity to bring a second set of skills to the attention of recruiters or simply to acquire proficiencies in a second area of interest.

Minors may be obtained with as little as five to six additional courses. Many of our majors are also available as minors. Students may be interested in considering some of the following unique opportunities as a minor.

Athletic Coaching

Athletic Coaching

This minor is designed to develop positive teaching and coaching skills in athletics and prepare aspiring coaches with the qualifications needed to work in a variety of environments, including public and private schools, governmental and community agencies, and business settings.

Minor in Business Analytics

Business Analytics

This minor will help students understand the terminology, concepts, and application of techniques to gain the technical knowledge in transforming, analyzing and visualizing data, using the very latest analytics tools. The information is relevant and the skills are what is needed in today’s world.

Business Leadership

Business Leadership

This minor is housed in the Business Department but available to any major on campus. The minor includes coursework and co-curricular activities with flexibility in the choice of classes so students can customize the minor to meet their interests. Complete a service learning project which is not only fulfilling, but also something a future employer will notice.

Child Advocacy Studies

Child Advocacy Studies (CAST)

This minor created and housed in the psychology department is interdisciplinary with coursework from psychology, criminal justice, education and health. Students learn to respond appropriately to experiences of traumatic stress and maltreatment of children and adolescents. This curriculum adheres strictly to the National Child Protection Training Center Standards.

Creative Writing

This minor is housed in the English Department and is designed to give students a foundation in writing in several different genres. Most coursework is in English, but playwriting from theatre is also included.

Digital Media Arts

This minor is housed in the Art Department and prepares students to design and create different types of digitized content including text, graphics, and video. Courses in art, graphic design and web programming are included.

Forensic Accounting

The minor contains courses from criminal justice and is available only to Accountancy majors for those students who are interested in pursuing careers identifying white collar crime.

Forensic Science

The minor is housed in the Biology Department and is for students majoring in biology or biological chemistry who wish to have a background in criminal justice for future forensic work.

Health

Health

The Physical Education Department offers two minors, one for education majors and one for all other majors on campus. The health minor for educators prepares students entering the teaching profession to be certified in both physical education and health education which is a unique advantage at C-SC. The non-teaching health minor is an interdisciplinary set of courses from both health and psychology.

Information Technology

This minor is designed to introduce students to several of the modern areas of computer and information science that are essential components of the future workplace. It will provide backgrounds and technical skills in programming, data analytics, cyber security, networking, and artificial intelligence with emphasis on the latest applications in these areas. It is available to any major on campus.

Physical Science

Physical Science

This minor is available to any major and supplements many areas of study. Students will study sustainability and alternative energy topics. Courses are in the natural sciences and general physics.

Sociology

The minor will introduce students to major theoretical and methodological issues within the discipline while providing a selection of topical courses to understand and analyze specific social structures and processes.
