Osborn has received the distinguished title of “Moorman Professor” in recognition of his contributions in free-enterprise systems and expertise in teaching, while demonstrating his passion for educating students with an interest in business. This significant award will allow the College to advance the Division of Business, Education, and Law while also implementing engaging, community-focused programs and projects. Specifically, C-SC will house five opportunities for academic exploration: The Moorman Professorship branded course in Economic Study, The Moorman Professorship branded 3-week course in interdisciplinary problems-based learning, Principles of Economics- a general education course, Annual Moorman Professorship Lecture Series, and “The Moorman Professorship Week” which will include activities for business students and the college community.
“Representing the Moorman Foundation is a distinct honor” Osborn noted, as he will play a vital role in the academic success of overseeing interdisciplinary, community engagement projects and providing public activities and events. In addition, the C-SC Division of Business, Education, and Law will host a summer college prep program for high school students considering majors and careers in business and entrepreneurship. Set to begin in summer 2022, participants will have the ability to earn college credit while obtaining countless professional development opportunities.
C-SC, a community-focused college, will utilize the Moorman Professor to organize and lead a semi-annual community engagement symposium and will provide a Leadership Speaker Series dedicated to bringing outstanding leaders from the private, government, and nonprofit sectors to campus to discuss business-related topics, which will be open to the public.
With the awarding of the Moorman-Professorship, C-SC is poised to make an increased impact on the economic development activities of our communities and the region, as well as educate the public about important economic issues. Osborn is excited to begin his role, with formal installation at the beginning of the Fall 2021 semester and stated, “I look forward to providing leadership, with the help of many others at C-SC, to impact students and the community through an emphasis on the economic, legal, and ethical principles in a free democratic society.” With the assistance of the Moorman Foundation, the College will continue to impact our region by providing workforce-ready graduates.
