The Wildcat Wire received first place in the best website category, and the Megaphone staff took first place in the special section or supplement category for its look back at the 100-year anniversary of the school’s newspaper. The editors who were recognized for both awards were editor-in-chief Hailey Frutiger, a sophomore media communication major from Orion, Ill.;managing editor Danielle Thurman, a senior media communication major from Bonne Terre, Mo.; arts and entertainment editor Vanessa Bolen, a senior psychology major from Beardstown, Ill.; and graphic designer Megan Ferry, a senior art/graphic design major from Kansas City.

Caelan McGee, a native of Union, Mo., and a 2019 graduate with a major in media communication, took second place in the video category for his video, “Cats on the Hill.” Bolen received honorable mention for her video, “Artist Spotlight – Jordan Graves,” and in the feature photography category for her photo, “Cast of ‘A Bright Room Called Day.’” Frutiger received honorable mention in the sports writing category for her story, “Women’s soccer ‘heading’ into season with a win.”

Culver-Stockton is one of six schools that participate in Division 3 of the MCMA contest. The awards were given to entries that were created during the 2019 calendar year.

Fred Berger, a senior lecturer of communication, is the advisor of the Wildcat Wire and the Megaphone.

The Wildcat Wire debuted in the fall of 2018 as a digital online student news outlet. Editions of the Megaphone, the college’s printed newspaper, have been printed on campus for more than 100 years. The staff produces two editions of The Megaphone each academic year.
