Culver-Stockton College prepares to welcome new students and the incoming class of 2021 to campus with the annual Wildcat Welcome Weekend. This year’s weekend theme is “Call of the Wild.” While steeped in tradition, the weekend will be busy with events, most notably the formal matriculation as well as C-SC’s largest service project, Extreme Dome Makeover.
New Wildcats will move into campus residences during the morning of Friday, August 18, and the formal Matriculation Ceremony is planned for that afternoon at 2 p.m., after a kick-off in the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center at 1:30 p.m. During the ceremony bagpipers and a faculty procession lead the entire incoming class across campus. They begin their procession at the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center and end at the steps of Johnson Hall, guided by the Wildcat Welcome Leaders. Once there, the new students individually meet President Kelly M. Thompson and sign their names in the C-SC’s Matriculation Book. Board of Trustees Chairman Ronald Leftwich presents each new student with a penny to cast into the fountain on the quad with their wish for their college careers. An evening of orientation events will conclude with an event featuring Comedian/Musician Armando Anto.
On Saturday, August 19, students rise early to participate in C-SC’s largest community service project, Extreme Dome Makeover. The 9th annual service event will be at nearly 20 different locations around Canton, Mo., and begins at 10 a.m. The event will conclude with lunch for the groups of students at various locations around town. Later that evening C-SC alumnus William Mitchell (Class of ’79) will be preforming his hypnosis show.
While the number hasn’t been finalized due to the semester has yet to begin, C-SC is anticipating the arrival of nearly 375 new students for the upcoming fall semester, and is on track to potentially see the largest freshman class in the history of the College. This marks the fifth year that C-SC has exceeded 300 new students in the fall semester.
Returning students are scheduled to move in on Sunday, August 20, and a “Welcome Back Greek Life BBQ” is scheduled for that evening, as well as a performance starting at 6 pm featuring Dueling Pianos. Classes are scheduled to begin Monday, August 21.
All students, faculty, and staff will gather on campus for the opening convocation, led by President Kelly M. Thompson, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2017. C-SC welcomes guest speaker Caly Cramsey, C-SC Board of Trustee Member, C-SC Alumni, and Chief Financial Officer at HOMEBANK in Quincy, Illinois.
