She attended Oklahoma State University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Management, with minors in Management Information Systems and Music. She lives in Canton, and has two sons who are both engineers. She recently gained a beautiful, funny and smart daughter-in-law. Patti has spent many years volunteering in the community as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, Pleasant Grove 4H leader, on the University of Missouri Extension Council, Sun n Surf Swim Club Board/Treasurer, Lewis County Fair Board, Lewis County 4H Council, and served on the Canton City Council as an Alderman for six years. She currently serves on the Canton Tourism Commission, is active in the Canton FFA Alumni Association, and belongs to Canton Kiwanis Club. She is active in the Missouri Association of Student Financial Aid Personnel, and spends many hours dedicated to helping students achieve the goal of graduating from college with as little debt as possible.

Her family has a long history with Culver-Stockton. Her father, Robert Mathieson, started working at Culver-Stockton in 1963, teaching science and geology classes. He convinced the College administration to buy the first computer! He was Emeritus Professor of Physics, Geology, Computer Science and Mathematics when he passed in 2007. Patti's current office in Henderson Hall used to be her father's chemistry lab in the 1960's! The Mathieson family donated funds to Culver-Stockton in 2008 to establish the Robert Mathieson Physics Resource Room (Science Center 214). Patti's step-mother, Carol Mathieson, or better known to the Culver-Stockton and local fine arts community as 'Doc Carol', started at Culver-Stockton in 1975, and was Emeritus Professor of Music when she passed in 2022.

Patti and her siblings donated money to Culver-Stockton in 2025 to update the Andrew Mathieson Memorial Garden and rename it the Mathieson Family Garden. It was originally established by the Fine Arts and Physical Sciences Divisions when Patti's younger brother, Andrew, passed in 1988. The garden is located near Carl Johann Memorial Library. The family is currently working on endowing a scholarship in Andrew's name.
