Part Two will be providing 2 training sessions of their choice as well as a final discussion, "When Hurts Heal: A Message of Hope and Resilience", Karen C. Sims, MFT, Director of Trauma and Resilience Initiative, Inc.

 

Session Two Topics:

Selecting Evidence Based Complex Trauma Treatment Models, Angel Knoverek, PhD, LCPC/LPC, ACS

This training’s purpose is to provide an overview of treatment models which have demonstrated effectiveness in the treatment of complex trauma for youth and adults. It will also highlight considerations for selecting treatment that is the best fit for client and/or their family.  It will describe different caretaker and youth interventions and evidence based models adapted for complex trauma.  It will describe emerging modals and complimentary models and also describe considerations when selecting treatment.

Complex Trauma, Schools, and Learning, Lindsey Knochel, MSW, LCSW

Participants will understand a trauma-informed perspective of student behaviors and recognize student trauma triggers. It will explain effective interventions with challenging student behaviors. 

Supporting Parents Who Experienced Intergenerational or Systemic Trauma, Karen C. Simms, MFT.

This training addresses why past personal trauma and intergenerational trauma matter in parenting. The module covers potential caregiving challenges for individuals who have had their own past traumas, and provides strategies for self-care and enhancing the parent-child connection.

 

Session Three Topics:

Complex Trauma and Substance Use, Angel Knoverek, PhD, LCPC/LPC, ACS

This module addresses how trauma creates a vulnerability to addiction and covers case examples of trauma responses and survival strategies in clients with substance use disorders

Complex Trauma and LGBTQ+Youth- Hayden

This module covers contributing factors that may negatively and positively impact the overall health and well-being of LGBTQ youth. Includes practice-based recommendations regarding approaches that may be helpful when providing care to LGBTQ+youth.

LGBTQ+Affirmative Care Complex Trauma and Community Violence- Lindsey Knochel,MSW, LCSW

 

This module explores community violence as a form of continuous traumatic stress. Participants will discuss the effects of chronic community violence exposures, the intersection with complex trauma and systemic racism, and culturally-specific approaches for working with Black and Latinx youth and families.

 

Systemic Racism- Provider Bias and White Privilege, Karen C. Sims, MFT.

This module covers how unconscious attitudes and various forms of social privilege can impact care. 

 

Closing, When Hurts Heal: A Message of Hope and Resilience, Karen C. Sims, MFT

After a day of discussing the profound impact of complex trauma, our closing session offers a message of hope and resilience in the human spirit for those affected by highlighting the potential for recovery and growth. It will emphasize the power of supportive relationships, self-care practices, and professional interventions in fostering healing and empowerment. Participants will leave with a renewed sense of hope and actionable steps to support their clients journey.
