Culver-Stockton College students now have the opportunity to enter law school a year earlier. C-SC and the University of Missouri entered into a nonexclusive partnership for the “Three plus Three Juris Doctor Program” (3+3 Program).
The 3+3 Program allows high-caliber, highly motivated students the opportunity to complete their undergraduate degree while completing their first year of law school at MU, giving students the opportunity to complete both their undergraduate and law degree in six years.
Eligible C-SC students will receive an early admission letter from MU’s School of Law by November of their junior year if their Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) score and GPA meets the minimum requirements. Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis taking into account other factors such as extracurricular involvement, leadership or other special circumstances. After successfully completing the first year of law school the student will receive a bachelor’s degree from Culver-Stockton College during the spring commencement ceremony.
Melody Schroer, Assistant Professor of Legal Studies and Department Chair for Criminal Justice and Legal Studies, said, “We are delighted to establish this relationship with the University of Missouri School of Law. In addition to their outstanding academic offerings, clinical programs and their renowned Center for the Study of Dispute Resolution, the law school also offers small class sizes and low faculty-student ratios.” She added that C-SC students are well prepared for the transition to law school thanks to experiential activities including mock trials, negotiations and mediations, as well as courses in legal research, analysis and writing.
C-SC students are excited about the opportunity to pursue the 3+3 program. “I wish this opportunity had been available when I enrolled here as a freshman,” said Brittni Hagemeier, one of three members of the 2017 graduating class who plan to attend MU School of Law in the fall. Ms. Hagemeier was also a member of Culver-Stockton’s Mock Trial team which competes each year in the Mid-Missouri Mock Trial Invitational, co-hosted by MU.
C-SC students wishing to enroll under this agreement must have an overall grade point average of 3.5. and must complete the LSAT after the second year of the three-year program. Students must also complete all general education requirements as well as required courses within their major. The program is open to students in all major courses of study.
