CANTON, Mo. — The Culver-Stockton College Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Student Chapter has once again earned the prestigious IMA Gold Award of Excellence, placing the chapter among just nine student chapters worldwide to receive the organization’s highest level of recognition. Along with the distinction, the chapter received a $500 award in recognition of its achievement.

The award recognizes student chapters that demonstrate exceptional leadership, professional development, community engagement, and commitment to the mission of the Institute of Management Accountants.

Throughout the academic year, the College’s 25-member chapter participated in a variety of activities designed to prepare students for careers in accounting and business. Members attended presentations by business professionals, toured companies, developed resumes and LinkedIn profiles, explored the use of artificial intelligence in business, volunteered at the local food pantry, and assisted with Culver-Stockton’s high school visit day.

Students also completed two major competitive projects. The chapter participated in the IMA Case Competition, where students analyzed a business case and then presented recommendations. Students also developed a proposal encouraging C-SC to partner with U.S. Wellness Meats, also based in Canton, for campus dining services. The proposal served as the chapter’s submission for the Clark Johnson Achievement Award, a competition that promotes student leadership, organizational development, and collaborative partnerships.

“The IMA students are enthusiastically committed to the projects we have undertaken, and the level of professionalism is top notch,” said Dr. Dell Ann Janney, professor of accounting and faculty advisor for the chapter. “What makes this group especially successful is their teamwork. These students are all friends who enjoy working together, embrace challenges, and consistently arrive with positive attitudes and a desire to work hard.”

Janney also credited chapter president Libby Kuntz for helping lead the organization throughout the year.

“Libby has been an outstanding leader,” Janney said. “She prepared the chapter’s strategic plan and coordinated the extensive documentation required for our annual yearbook submission. Her leadership played an important role in this achievement.”

Participation in the IMA chapter gives students opportunities to network with business professionals, hear from industry speakers, strengthen presentation and business etiquette skills, and gain experience using emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
