The Honors Program Our Promises to you

  • To ensure that each honors scholar has access to a rigorous curriculum that emphasizes original research, collaborative relationships, intensive writing, great works, creative expression and advanced thinking skills -- analytical, creative, critical, qualitative and quantitative.
  • To provide honors scholars opportunities for leadership development through seminars and co-curricular activities.
  • To provide opportunities for honors scholars to develop character by integrating knowledge with experiences through service learning, volunteerism, leadership opportunities, international travel and interdisciplinary exploration.

Eligibility

All students who compete for a Pillars scholarship are eligible and automatically enrolled into Honors. Students may also petition the Honors Board for acceptance.

Mission of the Program

The mission of the College Honors Scholars Program is to enhance the educational environment of Culver-Stockton College by providing unique and experiential academic opportunities to highly motivated students and faculty. This mission is based on the belief that academic excellence requires high expectations and personal engagement; therefore, the Honors Scholars Program seeks creative avenues for exploring and implementing this belief in both theory and practice.

Your Honors Program Benefits

Priority Registration

Honors Scholars receive priority registration status and are allowed to register for classes during the first course registration session. Thus, Honors Scholars have the opportunity to enroll in the classes they want on the days and times they want, with the professors they choose. Honors scholar students are allowed to enroll in up to 22 hours credit without incurring overload charges.

Honors Learning Community

From day 1, each Honors Scholar will be a member of a learning community on campus. The group will work together in all 1st year honors courses and beyond as they move through the program supporting and encouraging one another in their academic and extra-curricular endeavors.

One-on-One Faculty Mentorship

Each Honors Scholar has the opportunity to conduct a research project of your choice and you will receive one-on-one faculty mentorship to complete the project.

One-on-One Honors Student Mentorship

Each incoming Honors Scholar will have an upperclass Honors student as a personal mentor.

Honors Alumni

All Honors Scholars are given the opportunity to meet and network with Honors Scholars graduates of Culver-Stockton College throughout each academic year.

Honors Scholars Service

Honors Scholars are involved in various service projects throughout the academic year both on campus and in the surrounding community.

Special Recognition at Graduation

Honors Scholars receive special recognition at Culver-Stockton’s commencement ceremony.

Travel Grants

Freshmen Honors Scholars receive $500 of travel grants immediately upon enrollment.

Honors Scholars Educational Program

The Honors Scholars Educational Program consists of 16 hours.

  • Honors Learning Community courses: Three courses tied together in curriculum and projects, culminating in a final project for HON EXP 101.
  • FYE HON: Honors section of First Year Experience, (3) offered fall 12 week
  • HON 201: Honors course based in Experiential, Intercultural Research Methods, (3) offered spring 12 week
  • HON EXP 101: Honors section of Experiential Learning course, (3) offered spring 3 week
  • HON 301: Leadership (3), Offered each fall 3-week term.
  • HON 302: Honors Service Learning (3), Offered each spring 12 week.
  • HON 488: Honors Literature Review and Project Proposal (1), Offered each spring 12 week.
  • HON 490: Honors Scholars Capstone Experience (3), Offered as needed.
