MSSBDA Performance

Culver-Stockton College (C-SC) hosted the Missouri Small Schools Band Directors Association (MSSBDA) Festival on March 6, offering a day of music education and professional development for small school music educators and their students. Held at C-SC, the event brought together several talented student ensembles and provided a valuable experience for both educators and students.

MSSBDA’s mission is to support and empower small school music educators while offering quality educational experiences for their students. This festival features two main components: an adjudicated performance and a clinic portion. Each participating ensemble performed for three judges, followed by a clinic in which these adjudicators provided valuable feedback and guidance. Culver-Stockton College Professor of Music Trent Hollinger served as a judge.

“We are proud to host the MSSBDA Festival to provide a platform for young musicians to develop their skills and grow as performers,” said Hollinger. “This event not only showcases the talent of small school ensembles, but it also fosters an environment where students and educators can receive valuable feedback from experienced adjudicators. It’s an honor to support music education and inspire the next generation of musicians.”

The following schools participated in the C-SC festival: South Shelby, Brashear, Paris, Heartland Christian Academy, Wellsville-Middletown, Knox County, Monroe City, and Marion County. All bands that participated received either a 1 (exemplary), 2 (outstanding), or 3 (satisfactory) rating.

Several times a year throughout Missouri, the MSSBDA Festival provides enriching opportunities for music educators to learn, grow, and provide their students with exceptional educational experience in the world of music performance.
