Guiding students from script to stage
By taking courses across our communication, theatre, and education departments, you will develop the expertise needed to become an in-demand high school teacher who inspires confidence and creativity in your students. Throughout your studies, you will strengthen your own skills in debate, public speaking, and theatre production, both on stage and behind the scenes. This hands-on experience equips you to step into the classroom ready to help students find their voices and excelling public performance. Strong communication skills are among the most sought-after abilities in today’s workforce, ensuring your training will serve you well no matter where your career leads.
The C-SC Difference
From your freshman year, you will be placed in a high school classroom to observe and begin exploring your future career as an educator. During your sophomore and junior years, you will continue observing while also gaining hands-on experience by teaching short lessons in two additional schools. In your senior year, you will step into a full student-teaching placement, working under the guidance of a master teacher to build confidence and prepare for your first teaching position.
At the same time, you will have exciting opportunities–beginning your freshman year–to participate in theatre productions. You will learn not only acting skills, but also gain experience with makeup, costuming, lighting, and scenic design. Through this combination of coursework and performance experience, you will develop your own confidence as both a communicator and educator. Best of all, scholarships are available for students participating in our fine arts programs.
What can I do with a Speech & Theatre Education Degree?
You will have experience on stage and backstage to share with your students.
