Culver-Stockton College’s Mabee Art Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its exhibition, Organized Chaos, featuring the works of two dynamic contemporary artists, Lisa Walker and Nikki Ponce, both visiting professors from Carl Sandburg College.
The exhibition will be on view from February 27 to March 28, 2025, with an opening reception on February 27, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The evening will include an artist talk at 6:30 PM, where Walker and Ponce will discuss their creative processes and the themes explored in the exhibition.
Organized Chaos delves into the complexities of modern life, offering a striking visual dialogue between seemingly conflicting forces: order and disorder, precision and randomness, control and release. Both Walker and Ponce create artwork that bridges the boundaries between chaos and control, with each artist utilizing unique media and approaches to interpret the world around them.
“We are pleased to welcome Lisa Walker and Nikki Ponce for the opening of Organized Chaos. Both artists have unique approaches to their work, blending personal history, mythology, and organic expression in powerful ways. We are especially excited for the artist talk, where guests can hear firsthand about the inspirations and processes behind their work,” said Jennifer Bock-Nelson, Assistant Professor of Studio Art and Gallery Director.
Lisa Walker’s work is known for its bold exploration of materials, merging unconventional techniques with striking visual narratives. Her pieces invite the viewer to consider the tension between structure and spontaneity, offering a conversation on the controlled chaos inherent in the artist’s process. Walker is a Professor, Art Program Coordinator and Gallery Director with Carl Sandburg College.
Nikki Ponce’s mixed media works offer a glimpse into the layered, often tumultuous nature of human emotion and connection. Ponce’s art challenges the viewer to confront the complexities of lived experience, emphasizing the beauty found in moments of seeming disarray. Ponce works at Carl Sandburg College and is an art instructor at the college.
The opening reception on February 27 will offer guests an opportunity to meet the artists, view their work up close, and gain deeper insights into the creative journeys that led to the pieces displayed. Organized Chaos will remain on view through March 28, 2025. Admission is free and open to the public.
