Culver-Stockton College has been awarded a $1,558,654 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) to support the construction of the College’s new School of Nursing facility at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
The federal investment will support the buildout of approximately 6,000 square feet of dedicated space for the School of Nursing. The completed facility will include a state-of-the-art classroom, skills lab, simulation lab, conference room, student study lounge, and other spaces designed to provide nursing students with a high-quality, hands-on learning environment.
The facility will serve as the permanent home of Culver-Stockton’s new three-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, developed in partnership with Hannibal Regional Healthcare System to help address the significant need for nurses across northeast Missouri and surrounding rural communities.
“This award is an important investment in Culver-Stockton, our students, and the future of healthcare in our region,” said Dr. Lauren Schellenberger, President of Culver-Stockton College. “The permanent School of Nursing facility we envision would not be possible without EDA’s investment. Their support will allow us to create the space our students need while helping us respond to a critical healthcare workforce need across northeast Missouri and the greater Tri-State region.”
In addition to the EDA investment, Culver-Stockton has secured philanthropic and in-kind support to help equip and furnish the new School of Nursing facility. This includes significant support from Agiliti, a leading manufacturer and service provider for medical and surgical equipment, along with other private investments to help ensure the new facility is fully equipped for students and faculty.
“The School of Nursing was developed in response to persistent healthcare workforce needs across northeast Missouri and the greater Tri-State region,” said Schellenberger. “Students from this region now have a new and unique way to earn their nursing degree here, gain experience here, and ultimately build their careers here. This investment helps us create the facilities needed to make that possible.”
Currently located in temporary space at Hannibal Regional, the program welcomed its first cohort of students in fall 2026, with students coming from rural communities throughout the region. Its location at Hannibal Regional gives students the opportunity to pair classroom instruction with clinical experiences throughout their education. The EDA investment will fund the construction necessary to transform the designated space at Hannibal Regional Hospital into the School of Nursing’s permanent educational facility.
Culver-Stockton also acknowledges the support of the Mark Twain Regional Council of Governments (MTRCOG), which provided assistance throughout the development of the EDA application and will continue to support the project through administration of the grant. As the region’s federally designated Economic Development District, MTRCOG plays an important role in connecting regional priorities with state and federal economic development resources.
