CANTON, Mo. — Culver-Stockton College will have four performances of the zany Monty Python musical comedy “Spamalot” this month at the Alexander Campbell Auditorium in the Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center.
Spamalot is adapted from the 1975 film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” This spoof of King Arthur’s Camelot — where the weather and everything else behaved absolutely according to benign rules — features naïve Knights of the Round Table placed in ludicrous situations where the stiff upper lip is less believable than the dropped lower jaw.
King Arthur’s legendary quest for the Grail includes facing the taunts of sarcastic French knights and the fangs of a fierce attack rabbit. The hilarious blend of Monty Python silliness with Las Vegas Lady of the Lake lusciousness, complete with iconic coconut shell horse hoof travel music, reminds us that we each must follow our own dreams, even if we need to chase them off a beaten path.
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 27 and Sept. 28, as well as a 3 p.m. matinee on Sept. 29. A performance for only local high school students is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sept. 27.
